Ridin’ through this world…

I made a portrait of Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) from Sons of Anarchy last week. The season premiere was last week.

It was nice to finally get back on the horse and do something artistic for a change. I’ve been mired in design and planning with the day job, and a ton of home-life stuff that has taken me away from my hobbies.

Hence, the lack of updates… not that I update that frequently anyway. But I thought you should know. ;)

Mucha Lucha

Been a while since I’ve posted anything remotely creative, thanks in part to the demands of the day job. Lots of travel and business related strategy and planning, but little design and art.

I took a bit of time and did something for me. It’s still in prelim concept mode, but the idea is to create a series of Luchador characters and make some prints and other merch that I can sell at shows - my own IP, my characters. Just quirky enough to potentially go over with a wider crowd.

Don’t get me wrong - I love the noir thing - but sometimes you just need to do something else to break you out of that creative rut. That’s why I’m doing the Avatar Noir Portrait thing too. I can’t sell any of the work I do legally, since I don’t hold the rights to distribute images of IP I don’t own - unless its a personal commission.

This Lucha Land thing is something different. Hopefully it’s got enough appeal to gain some attention…?

If you’re a tech-savvy person, you’ve probably heard about Patreon. It’s a patronage platform, where artists can set up an account, give away exclusive content and receive donations from the public to continue creating things they’re good at.

I’ve been charting its trajectory for almost a full year now, and I’ve finally jumped on board and created a Patreon page, where you can support me in my quest to make a ton of comics for everyone to enjoy - not to mention a lot of behind-the-scenes process work, tutorials, bonus extras and commissions…

It’s a great motivator to get off your butt and work hard to fulfill the promise of content - people are paying you for your work! Hop to it!

You can pledge as little as $1.00 or as much as you like per month of content. The plan is to put out a full 24 page issue + the process work and other goodies depending on your patronage tier.

Once this gets rolling and we’re on a strict schedule, you’ll see newer projects and ideas emerge, and as a Patron, you’ll be the first to experience and give me feedback.

I’m looking forward to cranking out some awesome stuff that’s been marinating my brain meats. Comics, stories and a game or two. Please check it out, and help spread the word - if you like the things I create, help a brother out and donate! It’s definitely worth it!

Still Here, Still Kicking…

Okay. Stuff to show. Check it.

Here’s some prelim work I’ve been doing for The FIX - I’m still working away on it, using TWINE as the engine for creating the game. It’s been a great experience so far and I’m loving it. In other news, I did this.

Two issues of El Cuervo - The Latin Assassin out for consumption. I’ve been doing a shotgun approach, putting it up on my dedicated Twitter account, Facebook page, Tumblr, Google+, Pinterest, DeviantArt and my website. I’m still posting three times a week on Tapastic, until that buffer dies out. That won’t be well into June. I will be putting new issues together and releasing them (hopefully once a month) and promoting them as much as I can. SO far, the results have been quite positive - sharing on FB, Twitter, new followers likes and comments.

I’m still doing some Avatar Noir Portraits - just finished this commission and have a few more in the can to work on. These portraits have been a nice shift in the creative gears and I love doing them. Then, there’s this. J&C-FINAL1

I can’t show a full version of this just yet as the movie is still in pre-production, but it’s a sampling of a poster concept I’m putting together for an indie film for a friend of mine. So yeah - been busy. But now you’ve got a glimpse as to what’s going on. More to come. I promise I’ll be back soon - I always return… sig3

New plan of attack.

I’ll be posting the pages from each issue of El Cuervo - The Latin Assassin on a new tumblr account from this point forward. I’ve been experimenting with different delivery methods, and I’ve confirmed that each social media platform (Twitter, Tumblr, DeviantArt, Facebook, etc) has its own ‘ecosystem.’

Basically, users don’t like to migrate away from an area they’re comfortable hanging out in. If you’re a Twitter user, you want to spend more time on Twitter than jumping to Facebook, and so on.

I’ve decided to bring it all to you. One Page at a time, no matter if it kills me.

So the page posting will start with Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, DeviantArt, Behance, Google+ and Pinterest. God help me. LOL
